Baking soda

- is a white crystalline powder (formula: NaHCO₃) better known to chemists as bicarbonate of soda, sodium bicarbonate, sodium acid carbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate. Baking soda reacts with other chemicals as a mild alkali. Baking soda formed by combining a carbonic and a sodium hydroxide.
Baking soda decomposes into sodium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water (at temperatures above 149 degrees Celsius).

Baking soda has many industrial applications (for instance: sodium bicarbonate a useful agent in fire extinguishers, baking soda releases carbon dioxide when heated, air pollution control (it absorbs sulfur dioxide), for removal of surface coatings, leather tanning, oil well drilling fluids, chemical manufacturing and textile processing, paper manufacturing, water treatment, and so on).
Baking soda is an alkali used as a leavener in baked goods and used in making effervescent beverages, artificial mineral water, pharmaceuticals, and so on.
